Deathstroke #1 – The New 52 Reviews

Being a Marvel fan boy until these New 52 comic came out, I don’t know many of the less famous DC comics. I usually compare DC and Marvel because they usually have very similar characters. After reading this comic Deathstroke is somewhat similar to The Punisher.

Deathestroke is a hardcore Mercenary that has a dope outfit. This comic starts out with Death taking out a hit on a Russian. This is one of the coolest panels I have seen in a long time. Deathstroke cuts the Russian dude up with a sword and it is impressive. Stroke is next in an office getting his next assignment. The boss giving him the job, mentions he will not be working alone. Three young mercenaries are assigned to go on the mission with Stroke to assassinate a man who is transporting weapons. They plan on blowing up the plane after Stroke retrieves a briefcase. Once the team retrieves the case and blows up the plane the team celebrates. Stroke does not want a team and murders the young mercenaries assigned to him. Awesome and brutal, you got to check out Deathstroke Issue 1.

Aquaman #1 – The New 52 Reviews

I have returned from my comic hiatus with a new semi review.

I just got done reading Aquaman issue #1 of the new 52 for the second time. I read it around a month ago and completely forgot to do a blog about it. Aquaman is known to be a shizzy superhero that talks to fish, and has to stay in the ocean. What I liked about this comic is they turned Aquaman into a badass. I have never read an Aquaman comic before this because well, everyone says he’s lame. This comic seems almost self aware, and that’s why I enjoyed it.

The book starts off with a few panels of some evil looking fish man creatures. They also show up again at the end of the book foreshadowing they are going to be the future antagonists.  The book immediately goes to Aquaman stopping a robbery and the cops all making jokes like “do you need a glass of water”. I like when comic or movies are self aware and this one of the several examples in just this first issue. Aquaman then goes to a diner and orders fish and chips. This sparks a lot of interest in the dining establishment. A blogger asks for a quick interview and ask questions like “How does it feel to be made fun of for being a lame superhero”. Again I like the self awareness. The book ends with telling his wife that he wants to stay on land to fight crime. The last page is the evil fish creature attacking a fishing boat.

This seems like a comic that I will enjoy in the future, now I just need to catch up with the other few hundred comics I have shelved.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #3 – The New 52 Reviews

I feel a bit bad about talking about three issues of this comics, when there are 51 other I could be reading. I just got so into this comic that I couldn’t stop. Luckily I only have the first three issues so far so this will be the last you see of Red Hood for a  few weeks. I’ve always thought Anti hero books where always a better read, just because the characters are more interesting. I like Red Hood because it’s a campy anti hero, much like Deadpool (My favourite comic series). Now that I am a bit deeper into the meat of the story I can talk a bit more about my thoughts in theses reviews.

If he take a look at the cover it says “Sins of the Past” I thought it was just going to be a lame flashback issue. They pulled off a flash back issue better than most. The issue picks up from the last issue at the castle that was attack by “The Untitled”. They meet up with the 4000 year old oracle that chills out at the entrance of “the chamber of all”. In order for them to enter they have to give the guy their most cherished memories. I thought this was an interesting way to get some back story through flashbacks. The art work is pretty sweet in this, “The Chamber of All” was a picture of staircases leading all over the place. It was neat. The first flash back was for Starfire, it showed her when she was a slave princess. When the team gets through the chamber they see some sort of orb before they get attacked by a giant monster. The second flashback was about Roy, he was getting his ass kicked corcasuars and croc spared him. Back to the fight with the giant monster. What I love about these guys is they make Starfire do all the work because she’s the only one with superpowers. It’s straight comedy. Once they kill the monster, they find out the orb they have been trying to obtain is a snow globe. The last flashback is when Red Hood was Robin, and when he was sick Bruce Wayne stayed home with him instead of fighting crime. I’m really liking this series and I cant wait to get a bit deeper into the story. Red hood is a boss.
